Issues

Bring back Houston's lost jobs and help struggling Houston businesses

Houston has a long history of growth - until this decade. It may be hard to believe given all the news about job growth in Texas, but as recently as this summer, Houston had a higher unemployment rate than New York City. As Mayor, Jack will:

Work to attract manufacturing and technology sector jobs
Make doing business in Houston easier
Work with the private sector to restore a thriving job creation environment

Stop reckless City Hall spending

Houston is facing a budget shortfall of more than $4 billion dollars. This budget disaster is due to policies that have left our city with billions of dollars in liabilities to underfunded government employee pensions and medical plans. As Mayor, Jack will:

End the practice of borrowing money from workers unions to balance the City budget
Conduct Zero Based Budgets in all city departments and Enterprise Fund projects
Increase cooperation between City Hall and Harris County to reduce costs and increase
 efficiencies

Make Neighborhoods safer

Houston law enforcement and first responder networks are some of the best in the state, however we must work together to maximize resources for the safety of our children and neighbors. As Mayor, Jack will:

Help super neighborhoods and homeowner associations participate more actively in crime
 prevention programs
Remove uninsured vehicles from Houston streets
Improve the relationship between police and community
